Growing Sustainability from the Ground Up: Our CSR Collaboration with City Sprouts

At ThinkFarm, sustainability isn’t just a buzzword — it’s a value we live by. As part of our ongoing commitment to building a greener future, we partnered with City Sprouts (Sprout Hub) for this year’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activity. This meaningful initiative gave our staff hands-on exposure to Singapore’s “30 by 30” food security goal, while also inspiring them with new perspectives on urban farming and green innovation.

Understanding “30 by 30”
Singapore’s “30 by 30” vision aims to produce 30% of the nation’s nutritional needs locally by 2030, a vital goal in ensuring long-term food security and reducing reliance on imports. To achieve this, local agri-food companies are encouraged to adopt sustainable and productive farming methods. Our CSR activity sought to introduce our team to these strategies and the broader movement behind them.

From Farm to Table: A Meaningful Experience
The day kicked off with a DIY Microgreens Workshop, where our staff rolled up their sleeves and got their hands dirty — quite literally! Learning how to grow nutrient-rich microgreens from scratch gave everyone a first-hand experience of the farm-to-table concept and a greater appreciation of where food comes from.

Tour Highlights: A Look into the Future of Farming
Next up was a one-hour guided farm tour, where our team explored a fascinating mix of traditional and alternative farming methods. Some key highlights included:

  • Aquaponics systems – sustainable setups that combine aquaculture (raising fish) with hydroponics (growing plants in water).
  • Chicken coop and trellis structures – showcasing how even small spaces can be turned into productive farm areas.
  • Wayang (performance space) – a cultural corner reminding us of the importance of community in sustainability efforts.
  • Sensory garden and biodigestor with compost heap – a deep dive into the importance of composting and closed-loop waste management systems.

Going Vertical: A Green Wall Primer
The session also introduced our staff to the concept of green walls, vertical gardens that bring greenery into urban environments. These installations not only beautify spaces but also help regulate temperature, reduce carbon footprint, and promote biodiversity. We covered the technical aspects of green wall systems, including irrigation mechanisms, structural support, and plant selection — knowledge that could help inspire greener workplace and home environments.

Planting Seeds for a Sustainable Future
Our collaboration with City Sprouts left a strong impression on everyone involved. By engaging with Singapore’s sustainability goals in a hands-on way, our staff gained both knowledge and inspiration. As we continue our sustainability journey, we’re reminded that big change often starts with small actions — like planting a microgreen or rethinking how we use space.

Here’s to growing a greener future, one sprout at a time.
